Collaboration

Lamps that connect design
with human stories

In collaboration with the Mathelier ceramics studio, we create original lamps whose ceramic bases are handcrafted by blind and visually impaired artisans.

I use these bases as the starting point for my own work, shaping each lamp in a way that honors the intention and vision of its makers.

Sometimes it’s a dialogue and a shared creative process, sometimes it’s guided by chance, and sometimes it’s about giving the ceramic artists complete freedom.

About Mathelier

Mathelier is a ceramics studio of the Mathilda Foundation, where blind and visually impaired artists work with clay.

For the creators who work there, it is a space where they can create, learn, grow, and show the world that craftsmanship has many forms.

How the collaboration began

My first encounter with the people in the ceramics studio was a powerful moment. The creators, who work without sight, shape their pieces differently — not by appearance, but by feeling.

They form shapes that cannot be fully planned, that don’t follow the textbook.

They are real.

It became clear to me that this would grow into a long-term collaboration with deep meaning and impact.

We let go of our fears of imperfection together, and I am learning to look for beauty far beyond the surface — in places the eyes cannot reach.

Why this collaboration matters

These lamps are a testament to what can emerge when a different way of perceiving meets sensitive design — something that no single person could create alone.

What the collection brings:

  • Support for visually impaired creators – each lamp helps fund the studio and its programs.
  • Personal fulfillment for the makers – a sense of purpose and meaningful work, which is essential for every human being.
  • Unique design – a tactile approach leads to unexpected lines and forms that would never arise through a conventional process.
  • Small batches – every piece is an original, and some shapes will never appear again.
  • A story within the material – the touch of the hands, the process of creation, and its transformations are visible and tangible in every lamp.

How to support the foundation

There are many ways to help:

  • By purchasing a lamp from this collection.
  • By making a direct donation to the Mathilda foundation – supporting programs for blind and visually impaired people.
  • Through corporate partnerships – lamps as meaningful gifts or interior objects.

Every form of support has a real impact.

Sometimes small, sometimes large — but always important.
